The modern Hula Hoop we know today was invented by Wham-O in 1958. But ancient Greeks used hoops as a form of exercise, and in 1300 hooping was recorded in Great Britain. By 1800, British sailors first witnessed hula dancing in the Hawaiian Islands. Wham-O combined the Hawaiian hula dance with hoop to name their product.
