1937: When all the mommies wanted their little girls to look like Shirley Temple.

Overheard from one of the dads: “This is daddy’s company picnic, Little Sheila. Whatever you do, don’t beat the boss’ daughter at any of the games or there might not be a Santie Claus next year!”

Sheila is the little girl on the right who held back at the finish line to let the boss' daughter (left) win.
