Theater at Epidaurus, Greece

The ancient amphitheater in Epidaurus is about 2 hours outside Athens. It was built in the 4th Century B.C., and seats 15,000 people. The theater was discovered in the 1880s and is still used in the annual Hellenic Festival which stages classical Greek drama.

According to Greek mythology, Epidaurus was the birthplace of Asclepius, the god of healing (and son of Apollo). In the 4th Century and after, Epidaurus became a large center of healing.
